Destination Mt Isa

It has been one thousand five hundred and twenty one hrs since we left for Mt Isa. We stuffed the car full of clothes, camping gear, entertainment and presents, it was very stuffy and finally we hauled ourselves in until we were all packed in like a tin of sardines. We scrambled over The Great Divideing Range, took a detor round Glen Innes, went through Dundee, passed Deepwater, Bolivia, Bungulla stopped at Tenterfield for tea. Then back on the road! we drove through Jennings, Wallangarra, Wyberba, Lyra, Ballandean, Glen Aplin, Severnlea, Applethorpe, Thulimbah, Cottonvale, Dalveen, Braeside, Warwick, Glengallan, Allora, Hodgsonvale until finally we reached Toowoomba, where we stopped for two days and nights. Mum and Dad went to a Wedding, while our host and us went to parks. The next day we packed up, we then traveled on through Daldy, Chinchilla, Miles, Roma, Mitchell, Mungallala, we stopped at Tambo for the night. Ate breakfast in the park and used the park's sprinkler system as a dishwasher, on to Blackall, Barcaldine, chicken for lunch at Longreach; passed Winton, Cloncurry and finlly exhausted we stopped at 11pm at a yellow house with a three shade sails and two annoying dogs, on the corner of two avenues in Mt Isa. Where we were greeted by our uncle and his girlfriend, with pancakes and hot chocolate.

A Memorable Plane Trip

It was Tuesday I was pulling up at the airport. I went to my seat the plane took off. 20 minutes later I looked out of my window to see fins slicing though the blue depth of the Indian ocean. The captain called all crew members to the cockpit.

Then I heard a strange coughing sound I looked around, I saw no one coughing. I looked back out my window to see the source of the sound, the left engine was smoking badly then the waitress passed around life jackets and parachutes. I was eighth to take to the sky it was pretty cool but then my worst fears came reality the fins I saw earlier were not of dolphins but of killer whales.

The first person to jump never touched water one after another, man and woman were ripped apart. A man a little bit lower then me was grabbed out of mid air. I watched in horror as a leg bobbed to the surface. Now it was my turn, then a killer whale leapt into the air and swallowed me whole, then everything went black. To be continued.......

Meanwhile at the northern ridge the goblins had already launched the assault. Joharne, Elendel and Difrwin got there at the same time as three trolls. Elendel shot an arrow from his bow, it struck the inside of the troll’s mouth, and the troll fell to the ground, dead. Joharne drew his long golden sword and jumped on a troll and stabbed his sword in to the troll’s head. The troll knocked Joharne to the ground, he jumped back up and plunged his sword in the troll’s heart, and the troll fell to the ground, dead; taking three goblins with him. Difrwin hurled his throwing axe at a troll, it hit the troll’s eye the troll went berserk, he killed six goblins, then fell to the ground dead taking two more with him. Joharne swung his golden sword cutting a goblin in two. Then a volley of arrows killed the rest. “The rangers have saved us!”

7. Bengal tigers are very patient, it watches its prey and waits till the right time to make its move. It has very strong jaws; it catches the prey by its neck and the strong jaws and teeth help him to kill its prey.
8. Bengal tigers have a strong sense of smell. They also have great vision which helps them to hunt during the night time.
9. Bengal tigers can also swim and move quite swiftly in the water. They have the ability to shed or grow body hair.
10. Tigers lead solitary lives, and the courtship period, and association between mother and cub is their only interaction and association.
11. Tigers are entirely different in their hunting habits from lions, and hence they are mutually exclusive in their distribution.
12. Tigers rest during the day in the shade, and begin to hunt for food at dusk. They have keen eye sights and a sharp hearing that helps them stalk their prey.

Tom and John's Adventures

THE NEW HOUSE
"Mum, mum, when are we leaving to the new house?"
After I feed the baby John."

When we got there I saw a big mansion. I grabbed my bag and ran to the mansion. Dad opened the door; I ran upstairs, I ran down the hall, I opened the last door on my right. I saw a bed in the corner to my right, a desk to my left and a bookcase in between. A small lounge beside the bookcase, and a window above the desk and a closet behind the door. Tom's room was beside mine.

The next day when I was getting dressed I stumbled and fell into the closet and found myself in Tom's room. Tom was sleeping, I ran to Tom, "Tom, Tom wake up."
Tom jumped out of bed onto the floor. "What is it?" said Tom.
"I found a secret passage from my room to your room through the closet, don't tell mum and dad"

Ding, ding! "Breakfast" called mum.
We ran downstairs.
"Bacon and eggs." said dad. We sat down mum brought toast to the table.
"Mum, can Tom and I go to the bush?"
“Yes” said mum “But put your boots on.”
“Okay” We ran upstairs to put our boots on.

THE BUSH

As we were walking a wild dog ran after a rabbit straight towards us. We knew what to do. We started to climb a tree with a rotten branch that hung over the road.
When the wild dog came we pushed the rotten branches, “Snap!” the branch fell onto the wild dog, the wild dog fell down dead. We jumped out of the tree and caught the rabbit and put it on a green filed and went on.

We came to a pile of tin.
I reckoned “We could use this for a cubby.”
“Let’s go find a good spot for a cubby?”
We soon came to a good spot for the cubby there were six trees. Two trees were well spaced for a door, four trees were well spaced for the walls.
“Let’s start walking” and we began. Tom searched for wire while I got the tin. I brought two sheets of tin back. Tom found six rolls of wire, he brought them back.

Tom started building while I got more tin. Tom put up a wall made out of logs. I found a muddy spot near the cubby, we could use the mud to insulate the walls, soon we got the walls up then Mum called. “Tea”
We put the tin down and ran back home to tea.

At tea we talked about the cubby, “We should leave first thing in the morning.”

It was morning time, we jumped out of bed and tip-toed down the stairs. I went to Mum’s room and left a note and Tom got food. We grabbed the bag and went.

As we went past the wild dog Tom said “Let’s skin the wild dog and put it on the cubby wall.”
“Good idea,” We started to carry the wild dog to the cubby.

When we got there I said “I get the teeth”
“I get the back bone” said Tom
“I get the leg bones” said John.

I started to get mud. Tom started to skin the wild dog. Soon Tom finished, and then he started to build the roof. When I finished, I started to build the roof.
Then roof was finished. We started to eat.

I said we better make furniture. Tom was building a lounge, I was building a table.
“I’m finished” said Tom. We took the furniture into the cubby, the lounge was made out of logs and shredded vine for rope. Tom found a perfect rock for a hammer and a pointed rock for a chisel. He started to make a cupboard, when I finished Tom had finished the furniture. We had a rest than we ate lunch.

Carpenter again cleverly designed a flying wheel from cotton. Teh flying wheel whizzed through the air at great speed.

Mangonels

Mangonels in the Medieval Times fired huge spear called bolts, it was usually used to catch the towers alight.

We (my brother 'Halt and I) have built a mangonel from paddlepops.
It took 40 paddlepops to build.

We first built the base.

Then the sides, then the supports then the top and

finally the back as you can see.

We made a 'bolt' with paddlepops, two paddlepops thick. The 'bolt' flew fast and hard, it hit the wall on the other side of the room.

Shy the platypus

Shy lived with her mother and brother Spur in their burrow. Shy and Spur had no fur, they were pink and they had fun rolling about. One day their mother said, “We will go to see your father who will teach you diving lessons so you can catch your own food.” Their father lived upstream, he taught them how to dive.

One day their father was sitting on a rock digesting a big meal and ‘Snap!” up, up he went by a big flying eagle, up they soared.

Shy and Spur’s mother said, “It time you were making a home of your own.” It was summer and they water was drying up. There was not enough food and Shy was very greedy. “Shy you will travel downstream, past the rock that looks like a platypus, Spur, you will travel past the rock that looks like a shrimp.”

They both set off, Shy found a rotten log, oh and eel, she went on. She found a hole in the river bank, she went inside and found a lovely girl platypus, she stayed the night and the next morning she set off again. Then she found a hole, ‘yes!’ there was nobody in she made that their home.

One day she decided it was time to go back and visit her mother. Her mother was pleased to see her. Shy asked her mother if she had seen Spur, her mother had not seen him since he had left. Her mother warned her that was going to be a flood. When she left the burrow it was raining, she started to swim. It was fine at first but then the water got rougher and it was harder for her to swim.. She was trapped past her hole and then she tried to get out, a log fell in, she climbed onto a tree’s branch and struggled out. A fine male platypus helped her out of the water. He said, “Fun isn’t it.”

Spur was caught be a human, and taken in a bag to his house. Lots of people were staring at her. A woman tried to pick her up, Snap’. The man picked her up and placed her in a box with worms. Shy was very unhappy, one day she decided to eat the worms to build up her strength to escape back to Boonda.

One night she escaped, she was running for the river. She stopped at a marsh and dived in searching for food. She slept and then next morning she took of again like a bolt of lightening. She sniffed the air a while later, it was familiar, she kept going, she saw the river, “yes” home at last. She found Boonda he had been so worried he thought she was lost forever.

One day a male platypus tried to get her to go to his house. She didn’t want to. Boonda attacked the stranger and they had a big fight, Boonda nd the stranger fought each other. Boonda won, the victory was to have Shy as his mate.

Russ the Tree Kangaroo

Russ was a tree kangaroo who lived in the rainforest. Some aboriginals came to where Russ lived with some spears and nulla nullas and two trained dingos. Three aboriginals climbed the trees and two stayed on the ground. One climbed up the tree Russ was in, another climbed a tree nearby, another climbed another tree nearby. Russ told the other tree kangaroos to go to the top branch and escape. Russ’ father Zig-Zag was so old that he fell behind and the aboriginals caught up to him and whacked him with a nulla nulla, he fell to the ground to the waiting dingoes.

Then the aboriginal kept climbing, he was on the branch where the rest of the tree kangaroos were, then Scamper, Russ’s best friend, decided to jump. What Scamper didn’t know was another aboriginal was waiting in the tree he was jumping too. Scamper was speared and killed.

Then Russ jumped to another tree making a sign to tell the others to follow. He was forty feet away on an open branch when the aboriginal saw him, he hurled his nulla nulla at Russ and it struck him. Russ fell to a lower branch and then another and then he jumped to the ground and raced away with the dingoes chasing him. Russ dived underneath a Stinging Tree the dingoes went through the Tree and were blinded. The aboriginals and got the dingoes out. Russ escaped.

The tree kangaroos migrated to another home and Russ had many more joeys.

Pompeii

In Pompeii there was a mountain called Vesuvius. Nobody knew it was a volcano.

It was a fine day, when black smoke started to come out of the mountain, half an hour later ash fell. People started to collect their belongings and possessions, some people had almost escaped and then they came back to get their possessions. Many people were buried alive under the ash, some died from the poisonous gases.

A family in a big boat sailed to another island. A boy on the island saw what happened, his name was Pliny, he wrote about Pompeii, which is why we know about it today.

A few thousands years later people went back to live on Pompeii. People read Pliny’s letters, then people started to dig for water, soon they found a stone saying Pompeii, Was this the town Pliny wrote about? ‘Yes! It was.” Then archaeologists came and found fossilized people, dogs, jewelry, pottery and many other artifacts. Today Pompeii is like a muesuem without a roof. The archaeologists need more money to stop Pompeii from being destroyed by the weather and vandals.

Aroora the Kangaroo - Leslie Rees

Aroora the Kangaroo was an orphan. He was washed away in a flood and a missionary got him out of the flood and took him back to the mission. The missionary lived with some Aborigines, when he got back there all the children said, “ Ara, good to eat. Good dinner.”
The missionary said, “No let’s keep him as a pet.”
But one of the boys really wanted to eat the kangaroo.

One night the boy took Aroora out of the pen, tied him up and took him where somebody could not see him. He wanted to kill and eat him. Aroora escaped and went back to Merloo, his wife.

The next year there was no rain, Merloo died because she didn’t have enough food.

Warriors came to fight the vermins, it was a bloody battle, the vermins had more men but the warriors fought fiercely the warriors drove them back to the fiery depths, the warriors won.

The Rainy Day

Today it rained. The dam was filled, the raingauge had 17 millimeters, we thought that lightning hit. There was a down pour we got soaked. We had to turn off the computers.

Camp

We went to camp,it was lots of fun. We played tips, we went to the beach and we played soccer. We had lots of fun. And my sister made her First Holy Communion.

The Wedding

We went to my grandmothers wedding it was a great event.

The Gorge

Yesterday we went to the Gorge. We left at 9.00am, we got to the Langfords in time to leave for the Gorge. We drove for half an hour then we stopped for fuel and the shop keeper was not there. We waited for a hour finally the man came then Dad filled the car up

We had to go on a rotten bridge and dirt roads and cattle grids, we saw a snake. Finally we arrived. Then the owner of the property told us he would pick us up in a boat and take us near the waterfall. Then we had to walk the rest of the way.

My Life in the Country

I love the country. There is more space to play than in town. You can climb trees, build cubbies and play hidy go seek in the dark.

I have a trampoline, I play duck hunters with my brothers and sisters. We have lots of fun.

The Rainbow of Light

I went to the beach today. I had a good day then it started to rain, I went to the car. A little while later it stopped raining. I looked up at the sky, I saw the rainbow, then Mum said, "It's time to go home."

Komodo Island

One day Billy and I went to Komodo Island; as soon as the boat stopped we jumped out.

Billy bruised his leg. A Komodo ran toward us; we both ran away. Luckily the Komodo was running towards a broken egg.

We had fun the whole day; we forgot that the boat left at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I looked at my watch it was 4.20pm. Oh no! we ran, we got there, the boat was gone. Help! There was no sound we looked and looked we saw nothing what do we do?

I had an idea, "Let's make a fire."
Billy looked at the sky, it was black I said, "Let's find shelter"
We ran, we saw a hollow tree, we hopped inside it. I had an idea I told Billy to get two rocks.
"What for?" said Billy
"To make a fire I will go get some sticks."
We met at the tree I put the sticks on the ground Billy gave the rocks to me, I scrapped them together. Billy said he thought he saw a spark. I scrapped the rocks again. We both saw a spark, the fire started up. We slowly got warm.

Night came we didn't sleep well. Billy thought he heard strange noises. In the morning we looked for a way to get off the island. Billy found a door. He called me over we both opened it. There was a tunnel, we went through it, we got tired and had a rest, then we kept walking. We came to another door. We opened it, there were three tunnels, one went straight ahead, one to the left and one to the right. We went straight ahead. We walked for a long time and came to another door. We opened it and found ourselves in our own house.

We found out that the tunnel was an old smuggler's hideout.
